Environmental Groups Sue To Block Injection Wells

Three environmental groups have filed a lawsuit against DOGGR, asking the court to declare that new interim state rules on wastewater injection wells are illegal.

The suit was filed in Alameda County Superior Court by San Francisco-based Earthjustice, the Sierra Club and the Center for Biological Diversity. It contends the interim rules, which allow continued wastewater injection by oil and gas companies until February of 2017, is “in violation of state and federal law.”

Luna To Moderate Hispanic Chamber Energy Forum

Dennis Luna, Editor-in-Chief of the California Oil & Gas Report and Managing Partner of Luna & Regional_Hispanic_ChamberGlushon, will moderate an Energy Forum to be held May 8th by the Regional Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

The focus of the forum, titled “Powering The Economy,” will be how current state, national and international events are impacting energy supply and costs in California.

Panelists will include John Felmy, Chief Economist of the American Petroleum Institute; Diane Wiggins, Principal Manager, Strategic Business Solutions, Southern California Edisonl, and Tiffany K. Roberts, Director of Fuels and Climate Policy,  Western States Petroleum Association.

The forum will be held at the Hotel Maya, in Long Beach.

 

CRC Reports Net Loss on Record Production

California Resources Corporation (NYSE:CRC), formerly part of Occidental Petroleum, reported a net loss of $97 million or 25 cents per share for the first quarter of 2015, compared to a profit of $223 million or 57 cents per share for the first quarter of 2014.

CRC also reported record quarterly total production of 166,000 BOE per day and record crude oil production of 108,000 barrels per day.

ARB Workshop on Greenhouse Gas Emissions

The California Air Resources Board (ARB) staff invites the public to participate in a  workshop on ARB’s draft Regulation for Greenhouse Gas Emission Standards for Crude Oil and Natural Gas Operations, on Monday, April 27, 2015.

At the workshop, ARB staff will present draft regulatory language and solicit stakeholder and public feedback.

Article: Fracking Challenge Shows Cracks

Misguided opposition to fracking based on “junk science” would have “massive repercussions on California’s economy,” especially on Black and Hispanic families, says Aubry Stone, head of the California Black Chamber of Commerce.

In an op-ed column, Mr. Stone notes that in Los Angeles County alone, the oil and gas industry generated more than $5 billion in taxes and created 103,000 jobs. “The county has the second-largest number of black-owned businesses in the nation,” he says. “As a result, L.A.’s communities of color have the most to lose when our economy takes a hit.”

DOGGR Emergency Injection Well Regulations

DOGGR announced plans to propose emergency regulations to bring California’s Class II Underground Injection Control (UIC) program into compliance with the federal Safe Drinking Water Act.

The new rules will codify the deadlines for the California Department of Conservation’s Division of Oil Gas and Geothermal Resources (DOGGR) for submittal to the EPA of aquifer exemption applications for Class II wells.
